Dedicated to my mother, Melody.

In 2004, my father left behind my sister, my mother, and I for another woman in Singapore. He took all of his belongings, our family savings, as well as our passports, in the case that we would follow him back.

My father brought us to the States for a better life, but instead trapped us to a land we struggled to adapt to. We had no money and we were facing eviction every month in our apartment. My Mother made it work, regardless of the fact that we had nothing.

She took on jobs "under the table" to make ends meet for her children. She sacrificed her entire life in order for us to live "normally".

In a recent conversation with my Mother, she said "as long as there was food on the table, we are going to be ok.". We always had full plates, but that was because my Mother went beyond her ways in order to keep us fed.

She never needed to worry about us because she knew that we were going to be ok if we stayed under the radar. As a child, I never fully understood the amount of work my Mother had to do to keep us going, but now, as a Father, the duty to keep your child healthy and blissfully unaware of the implications of being Undocumented, meant sacrificing your life to those you love.

Her starvation was our salvation, "A Mother's Hunger".

I love you, Mom.
